Political change takes center stage in Westfield, NJ.

On November 7th, 2023, Westfield residents went to the polls to exercise their Constitutional right to vote.  Thousands of members of the community voted for a number of positions, and when the ballots were tallied, the Republicans swept all the Town Council seats that were available.

Leading the charge was David Kiefer, a Republican, who received 1434 votes, the most out of all participants in his party. Other winners included Todd Saunders, Michael Armento, and Michal Domogala. Together they accumulated about 52% of the votes in the election.

The new members of the Town Council have big plans for Westfield, and after winning his election, Mr. Armento, the new councilman for Ward 2, congratulated his opponent in the race. He stated, “I think she ran a very good campaign. I appreciate everybody’s support and trust in voting for me this election. I’m honored to run for Town Council. I’ll be representing all of Ward 2 and all the residents of Westfield.”

Overall, the races for the Town Council seats were hotly contested, and on election night both parties gathered with their colleagues to await the results. The Democratic Party candidates met at 16 Prospect Wine, Bar, and Bistro. While at the same time, the Republicans gathered at the Italian-American Club on Central Ave.

When the results were finalized, Scott Katz (D), who used to represent Ward 4 expressed his disappointment at not winning, but also admitted that he trusts his opponent who won and thanked him for a fair and competitive race.

Election season is always a busy time for politicians, as they work tirelessly to secure the support of town residents.  However, now that the results are in, it is time for the entire Town Councils to work together to make Westfield the best place it can be for every person who lives or works in town.
