When Taylor Swift announced the release of her The Tortured Poems Department album at the Grammys, fans went crazy. The countdown was on, and once the album was released, Swifties stayed up all night listening to the songs on the album. Some of the most popular songs include: Fortnight, So Long London, Down Bad, and I Can Do It With a Broken Heart. Another new album recently released was GUTS spilled, by Olivia Rodrigo, which was released on March 22nd. Some fan-favorite songs of the album are: Teenage Dream, Obsessed, and Girl I’ve Always Been. Rodrigo recently went on tour in NJ, and many students at Roosevelt attended her live shows from Apr 5th through the 9th. While she does not have quite the following that Taylor Swift does, Olivia Rodrigo has enough influence to create incredible viral buzz whenever she releases new music.
Outside of the world of music, a type of candy called “Swedish candy” has recently become a viral phenomenon on TikTok. Stores like BonBon in New York City and Sockerbit in Los Angeles have people lining up all the way out the door to get their hands on this incredibly popular candy. The most popular candies include the brand Bubs, Sour Skulls, and triangular-shaped gummies called “Tutti Frutti.”
There are many reasons why certain things turn into viral trends while others do not. However, one thing that never changes is there will always be an abundance of new people and new things looking to take the viral world by storm.
